Thank you for being here!

As the pressures on working caregivers continue to rise, artificial intelligence has emerged as a powerful partner in supporting caregiving employees through their work vs caregiving conflicts. From virtual assistants that support older adults in managing daily tasks, to the collection and analytics of large amounts of patient data, artificial intelligence has stepped to the forefront to help transform the way care is supported and delivered. Significantly, AI is available to help organizations automate routine HR tasks and create care support strategies that are more inclusive and responsive.

In this edition, we explore many of the benefits that AI offers as well as the concerns that come with them. We touch on AI’s contributions to facilitating daily-life activities and improving patient safety, as well as issues around data privacy.

Whether you’re an employer beginning to consider tech-enabled support for your employees, or an HR leader starting to build care-support policies, this issue provides objective considerations to help inform your decision-making. It’s important to keep in mind that although technology can greatly improve efficiency, it cannot provide empathy. AI is meant to help rejuvenate, not replace the people at the heart of caregiving.

The Caregiving Crisis: Why Employers Should Take Notice And How AI Can Help

Author Dor Skuler, cofounder of five successful ventures, most recently Intuition Robotics, creator of ElliQ makes the critical point that caregiving is not just a personal issue, it’s becoming a significant workplace challenge. He also makes a vaild business case for employers stepping up their support for their employees who are also caregivers.

Advancements in AI are creating solutions that directly address many of the challenges faced by family caregivers. AI-powered tools can assist with routine tasks like medication reminders, appointment scheduling and monitoring the well-being of loved ones. By automating these activities, caregivers can focus more on work and the emotional aspects of caregiving and less on the day-to-day logistics.

Building a lifeline for family caregivers across the US

By MIT News, Zack Winn August 11, 2025

The author reports that 63 million caregivers in the U.S., have quite a bit of burden to help care for family members while also working. He shares that employers have an opportunity to support their empoyees with a caregiver platform technology that ianacare delivers.

“In my mind, AI got its start in speech recognition, and the intelligence we use to surface recommendations and create care plans for family caregivers uses a lot of the same statistical modeling techniques I used in speech recognition and ad placement,” (co-founder Steven) Lee says. “It all goes back to the foundation I got at MIT.”

Using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Support Working Caregivers – An Emerging Business Imperative (Blog 9/2/25)

If you have recently attended a medical appointment, you may have noticed some changes in the way health data is collected compared to a few years ago. For example, the old glass thermometer that went under your tongue to take your temperature has been replaced by a sleek thermometer gun that aims a light at your forehead. The scales with the weights that had to be slid from one side to the other have been replaced by digital scales, and the arm sleeve blood pressure cup that had to be manually pumped has been upgraded to a blood pressure wrist band that self-inflates. These are just a few basic examples of how artificial intelligence has taken on a significant role in our healthcare system, making the collection and monitoring of data more efficient and accurate. This blog examines the impact of AI on the role of working caregivers and, equally important, what it means for their employers.

Stories From Real Working Caregivers:

Actual working caregivers share their stories.

Meet Rosalind Marshall Jones, a real working caregiver:

Rosalind Marshall Jones

“…you have to be a special person to be able to take care of someone who's sick… And I've told people, if someone asks you to be a caregiver and honestly you can't do it, please say no.”

Rosalind Marshall Jones MBA, is a virtual caregiver coach dedicated to taking a proactive approach to working with caregivers and their loved ones positively impacting their quality of life. She also serves as an advocate, crisis counselor, and healthcare intervention. But she didn’t start out on this path.

Rosalind was working in the corporate world doing very well, but then was asked to do a favor for a church member. She accompanied her to the hospital for what was suppose to be a quick two day visit that turned into a two week stay. Here is where her journey into caregiving began. From this point on Rosalind was determined to make a difference in the healthcare world. She opened Jacksonville’s Best Caregivers in 2009 to provide families a place to turn to when their loved ones need long-term health care. In addition to running Jacksonville’s Best Caregivers, Rosalind uses her experience and education to provide training to new caregivers and their family members so they are able to best care for their loved ones. She is also an author and a dynamic speaker.

I always tell people, when you're hiring a caregiver, don't hire one person. Hire two or three because one of those people is going to get sick this week… These are the things that you have to understand when you hire caregivers… So you interview them. You don't always take the first one. You interview through word of mouth. Go out there on Caring.com. Because they already have the ratings. They do the background check.  You know, they have these different companies that you can use that already do the pre-work for you… All that stuff is already done.”
